From www.ibtimes.co.uk: Microsoft has announced the retirement of Skype, with the service set to be shut down by May 5, 2025, urging users to transition to Microsoft Teams instead.

Despite its early success, Skype’s user base plummeted from 150 million in 2011 to just 23 million by 2020, largely due to a failure to adapt and compete with platforms like Zoom and Teams.

Users will be able to transfer their Skype accounts and contacts to Teams, although paid Skype features will be discontinued post-shutdown.
