From hallandwilcox.com.au: On 16 February 2025, the Australian Government announced a temporary ban on foreign purchases of established dwellings effective from 1 April 2025, lasting until at least 31 March 2027, in a bid to improve housing affordability and increase housing supply.
Exceptions to the ban include investments contributing to housing supply, purchases under the Pacific Australia Labour Mobility Scheme, and purchases by permanent residents and New Zealand citizens.
The Government will also intensify enforcement against land banking by foreign investors, with a budget allocated for audits and compliance to ensure timely development of vacant land.
