From www.accountingweb.co.uk: (UK context) During the Festival of Accounting & Bookkeeping, Ray McCann addressed the issue of rogue tax advisers undermining professional standards, highlighting that among the estimated 30,000 unaffiliated tax advisers in the UK, many are unqualified and cause harm to the profession.

He shared examples of problematic advice, including claims for R&D tax credits on non-qualifying items, and emphasized the need for increased regulation and a new registration scheme for tax practitioners to improve accountability.

McCann advocates for all tax advisers to be members of professional bodies to uphold industry standards and protect the integrity of the profession.
