From www.bartier.com.au: Significant changes to the NSW Residential Tenancies Act 2010 will restrict landlords’ rights regarding residential tenancy agreements, focusing on three main areas: rent payments and increases, terminations, and pet ownership.

From May 2025, landlords must offer tenants convenient, fee-free payment methods, adhere to a 12-month cap on rent increases, and provide genuine reasons for terminating leases.

Landlords must also respond to pet applications within 21 days, and failure to do so will result in automatic approval for tenants to keep pets.
