Professional year axed for international students

From www.accountantsdaily.com.au: CPA Australia, Chartered Accountants ANZ, and the Institute of Public Accountants announced the discontinuation of the Accounting Professional Year Program due to a significant decline in enrolments, which dropped from 7,122 in 2018 to just 340 in 2024.

New enrolments will cease on March 5, 2025, and the program will conclude by May 1, 2026, as the accounting bodies faced challenges in modernising the program amid lack of government support.

The decision highlights the ongoing recruitment issues in the accounting profession, where an estimated additional 32,400 accountants will be needed in the next decade.
