From www.claytonutz.com: Large grocery businesses in Australia with revenues exceeding $5 billion must comply with a new mandatory Food and Grocery Code of Conduct that came into effect on April 1, 2025.

The Code introduces significant penalties for non-compliance, including fines up to $10 million or three times the benefit derived from violations, alongside enhanced dispute resolution processes.

It aims to protect suppliers and farmers by addressing bargaining power imbalances and includes new requirements such as appointing a Code Mediator for dispute resolution and ensuring that agreements reflect good faith practices.
