From www.accountantsdaily.com.au: The Australian National Audit Office reported that complaints to the ATO nearly doubled, with 49,414 complaints recorded in the 2023-24 financial year, a 99.7% increase from 2020-21.
Income tax complaints rose significantly, making up the largest portion of issues reported, and the ATO was found to be effective in managing complaints but was advised to enhance its analysis to identify root causes and improve public reporting.
The ATO agreed with the report’s recommendations and commits to understanding systemic issues to improve taxpayer experience.
