From www.accountantsdaily.com.au: The government has granted the Inspector-General of Taxation and Tax Ombudsman (IGTO) new powers to access Tax Office records and enforce cooperation from ATO staff following the Royal Commission into the Robodebt scheme.

Ruth Owen, the Inspector-General, expressed support for these changes, stating they enhance the integrity of the tax system and provide necessary checks and balances.

The amendments require all ATO and Tax Practitioners Board staff to assist with investigations, with potential grounds for disciplinary action for obstructing inquiries.
