From www.themandarin.com.au: The Australian Services Union has raised concerns that proposed cuts to the Australian Public Service by the federal opposition could significantly impair revenue collection functions at the Australian Taxation Office.

The ASU estimates that nearly 50 senior roles would need to be eliminated, warning that such cuts would negatively impact the ATO’s ability to collect taxation revenues.

While the Coalition claims that frontline roles will not be affected, the ASU emphasizes that tax functions, being essential but considered “back office,” may face substantial staffing reductions.
